Sam has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, primarily with IBM and Unisys, where he held senior executive positions in sales and general management. The majority of his career was spent in the functional areas of sales, marketing, and services, while being primarily engaged in business development and selling large deals. Sam’s industry focus has been on Telecommunications, Utilities, Media, and Financial Services. While most of his experiences have been in the US marketplace, he has also held several global leadership roles at IBM, as well as roles in the Canadian and European theaters.
Sam led teams that closed several large and significant IT product and services transactions in North America and in Europe. He has also played significant roles in M&A transactions. He conceived and led the execution of IBM Global Services’ strategic alliance program which included focus on startup companies. As General Manager of IBM’s commercial finance unit, he created innovative offerings that helped increase sales through external channels. In addition, his offerings provided large enterprises with bundled IT hardware, software, and services, a forerunner to utility computing. Later he launched his own startup to provide project finance to help IT vendors grow their sales. He also pioneered the monetization of cash flows from IT services contracts as an alternative financing vehicle.
Sam graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA from York University in Toronto, Canada, where he majored in Marketing and Strategy.
He currently resides in Connecticut with his wife and two children. He loves to play golf and tennis, and serves in leadership and development roles in local community based organizations.
